PASS THE MIC with Roxanne Darling
In this intimate group setting, Roxanne Darling will discuss the good, the bad and the ugly of social media as experienced by the Generation-Z with four college students.
Social media was the promise of a truly hyper-connected world where the possibilities for breakthrough thinking and innovative collaborations among people with different perspectives could advance the state of human knowledge.
Yet, “trolling” and online bullying have become the latest phenomenon and is by far the most vicious and damaging to young people and adults alike.
According to a Pew Research Center 2014 survey, 73% of adults have observed the harassment of others online, and 40% have themselves been targeted for harassment. Trolls most frequently target young adults (18-29), 65% of whom reported that they have been trolled. Young women face particular types of trolling, including stalking (26%) and sexual harassment (25%).
